The Grand Ole Opy on GAC and at Carnegie Hall

Recently we noticed a rumor being passed around that the Grand Ole Opry would no longer be airing on the Great American Country cable TV network (GAC) after the month of October. As best I can tell this rumor seems to based on this statement from gactv.com:

Saturday, October 29th – Grand Ole Opry Live! – All New Live Episode! 8 pm ET/PT. ‘Opry Month’ on GAC comes to a close with a showcase of country acts in the final live airing of Grand Ole Opry Live!.

In our ongoing effort to bring you accurate and authoritative news and information, I spoke with GAC media coordinator Dan Hurst yesterday evening to clear up this question, and here’s what he had to say.

No that is absolutely not the case. We will continue to carry The Grand Ole Opry Live! That statement is referring only to the final airing in the month of October during our “Opry Month.”

He also said he would talk to their web people and see if they could change the wording of that paragraph to remove any possible confusion. Hurst was very upbeat and excited about the future of The Grand Ole Opry on GAC.

NOTE: While on the subject of the Opry don’t forget that next month the Opry goes to the Big Apple! The November 14 show will be held at Carnegie Hall. The show is the culmination of the Opry’s 80th Anniversary Celebration and will feature bluegrass artists Ricky Skaggs and Alison Krauss and Union Station, as well as a host of country stars. Tickets are available at carnegiehall.org or by calling CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800.
